Hello all from Ontario Canada.
Oh how I miss your town. Visiting my Grandmother (Rosa Shone) on Gunn St. (#5 Halkyn), walking along the Alyn to the steps at the bridge, quickly crossing the road to go to the paper shop to get my weekly Beano.
I remember a shop called Elsie's across the street from The Golden Lion, I could be wrong with the name. I haven't been to Rossett since August of 1984.
In regards to the gentleman who was looking for help locating information about his father Harold Percival, if your mother was named Annie, then I might be able to provide limited information and some pictures for you. You can contact me via email if you wish. I realize you posted in 2009, but I only saw the message now. Hope it helps.

Congratulations on the floral display at the roundabout at the junction of the B5445 and the access to the A483. You got it absolutely right. An abundance of tubs with just two types of plants that look good for a long time. You obviously understand that public planting is not the same as private planting . Well done - it forms a lovely entrance to your village and lifts the spirit.

I recently used your website to find contact details for the local community council and would like to thank you for the help your website provided in this regard.

Reading recent community council minuets it seems because of the large shortfall in funding for darland school either the school or the county borough council is trying to get the school fields brought inside the settlement limit, this will allow the land to be sold of for housing at a massive profit to anybody but the people of Rossett.
This must not be allowed to happen as once the land has gone it can never be recovered. Can this be a desperate attempt by the liberal led council to sell the family silver.

Disregard my request for Townditch because I found it on the map. It is beyond the Golly.

Can anyone tell me where Townditch is in Rossett. I think I could find it if I was there but I would like to find it on the map.
I would start by going to Burton Green and then go north somehow until I found it.

I have returned to live in Rossett after an absence of 26 years. During this time myself and my family have lived in Harrogate. When we moved to Harrogate we found that there was an area curiosly known as Rossett, interetingly All our children ended up going to Rossett Acre Primary http://www.rossettacre.n-yorks.sch.uk/ in Harrogate. It would like to understand the connection - this is potentially connected with one of the older houses in the south part of Harrogate called Rossett Manor. Thanks Jonathan

Further to my previous post (below), a bit of further ferreting around has revealed that in April 1931 a Catherine Wilkinson of 6 Waverely Crescent (who was born in 1908) married a Frederick MARTIN of Llay. Her father was Thomas Wilkinson, and a witness to the marriage was a Nora Wilkinson. Her age, father's name and witness name all stack up with the Thomas Wilkinson family I am researching (except that father Thomas's occupation is shown on her marriage certificate as ?motor driver' and not butcher).
I would be most interested to hear from any descendents of Frederick and Catherine Martin.

Hi Jasmine Amelia, Trevalyn hospital can be found @ 53.101590, -2.945205 on Google maps. It was, as you say a Maternity Hospital in those days and was later (Early 60's?) changed to a NHS care home for the elderly and has since been extended and converted to private residential apartments. These have not sold well (Market downturn?) and I think I am right in saying the developer is in some financial difficulty
